If you’re looking for a comfortable way to relax, then you may want to consider purchasing a power recliner. Power recliners can be a great addition to any home, and they provide many benefits.
However, there are some things you should know before purchasing a power recliner. One of the most important things to consider is whether or not the power recliner needs to be plugged in.
Throughout this blog post, I’ll cover every aspect of plugging a power recliner into a power outlet. So, if you’re interested in learning more about this topic, keep reading!
Do Power Recliners Have To Be Plugged Into A Power Outlet?
If you have a power recliner, it is important to remember that it must be plugged in at all times. Without a constant supply of electricity, the recliner will not be able to operate properly. As a result, you may find that your furniture does not work as well.
You can’t even operate it by yourself because power recliners are motor-driven.
Although, there are some power recliners with battery packs that you can use. They are quite handy especially when you have to get out of the recliner when the power is out.
But they aren’t that common yet and even if you did have one, it’s best to keep the battery for an outage. So, please keep your reclining sofa plugged into an outlet all the time.
Where Do You Plug In A Power Recliner
Power recliners are a great way to relax and unwind. However, before you can sit back and enjoy your new chair, you need to know how to plug it in and understand how electric recliners get power. Most power recliners come with a standard 110-volt outlet, which means that you can plug it into any standard wall outlet.
However, some models may require a special 220-volt outlet. Consult an electrician, if your recliner chair needs special attention.
Usually, you’re gonna have 3 components to consider when plugging in a power recliner:
- Connecting wire
- The adapter
- A cord that goes to the wall socket
If you wanna know how to plug in a power recliner, then I’m about to discuss it now. First, you need to plug the connecting cable from the recliner to the power adapter. After connecting, snap the safety lock [if any].
Next, you take the plug cord that’s attached to the other end of the adapter and put it on your nearest wall socket. See, it’s such a simple job!
Alternatively, you can hardwire the recliner directly to the electrical wiring in your home. This requires some basic knowledge of electrical work, but it’s not overly difficult.
First, find the connecting cord on your recliner. Once you have found it, plug one end of the cord into the socket on the side of the recliner. Then, take the other end of the cord and plug it into a nearby outlet. However, I still prefer the adapter because it makes sure there aren’t any shenanigans due to voltage problems.
Also, make sure there aren’t any loose connections anywhere.
Now, you can sit back and enjoy your recliner without having to worry about being disconnected from the power source.

How Much Power Does An Electrical Recliner Use
I’m sure since a power recliner couch is an electrical device, you must have been thinking in your head, “do electric recliners use a lot of electricity?”.
I can’t throw you a straight ball here, unfortunately. Because it depends on your usage. Power recliners are motor driven machines, so the more work the motor does, the more power it’s gonna consume. An average power recliner should use around 58W for a motion, give or take.
Also, you don’t have to worry about the recliner consuming too much power when it’s idle, as during the standby mode an average electrical recliner takes about 10-15W.
Nowadays, a lot of electrical recliners for old people come with massage features or heaters, they consume quite a lot of power- even up to 100 watts. So, naturally those would cost higher. But, still then you aren’t gonna be using it for more than 2-3 hours.
Let’s say, you have one of those fancy electrical reclining sofa with a built-in heater and it takes 100W an hour. It’s gonna take 10 hours for it to use up 1KWH of electricity.
It should be visible now that operating a power recliner isn’t expensive, so relax and enjoy.
Parting Words
There you go, now that you know what to do, you’ll never ask yourself “do electric recliners need to be plugged in or not?” Now all you have to do is, sit back, enjoy a glass of warm coffee and relax as the recliner sofa takes all your worries away.
